Twitter Is About To Become More Flexible

In May this year Twitter revealed that users of the microblogging site would soon be able to do even more with their 140 characters.

“Over the past decade, the Tweet has evolved from a simple 140-character text message to a rich canvas for creative expression featuring photos, videos, hashtags, Vines, and more. So, you can already do a lot in a Tweet, but we want you to be able to do even more. In the coming months we’ll make changes to simplify Tweets including what counts toward your 140 characters,” said Twitter.

The Verge now reports that the big change to Twitter is right around the corner. According to them, from 19 September users will be able to include more content in their tweets.

More Flexibility When Composing Messages

The following media attachments will no longer count as part of the character limit:

  • GIFs
  • Photos
  • Videos
  • Polls
  • Quote Tweets

User names at the start of reply message also won’t interfere with the character limit. This will help you properly communicate your message when you have to respond to several people in one Tweet.

Rumours of these changes going live have circulated before, which has made technology website Engadget reach out to Twitter, but the company has not confirmed or denied that the changes, or which of them, will go live in September, so we can simply wait until Monday to see what will happen.
