{"id":10524,"date":"2018-09-26T09:53:08","date_gmt":"2018-09-26T07:53:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.webafrica.co.za\/blog\/?p=10524"},"modified":"2018-09-26T09:53:08","modified_gmt":"2018-09-26T07:53:08","slug":"how-to-keep-tabs-on-your-data-usage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.webafrica.co.za\/blog\/uncategorized\/how-to-keep-tabs-on-your-data-usage\/","title":{"rendered":"How to keep Tabs on your Data Usage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you are on this page then you are probably making use of one of our capped or FUPPED packages and need to keep an eye on where your data goes.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily this is easier than you might think.<\/p>\n<p>Now you probably already know that you can view your daily data usage in your <a href=\"https:\/\/usage.webafrica.co.za\/usage.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Customer Zone,<\/a> but that doesn\u2019t tell you WHERE that data goes \u2013 only that it\u2019s gone.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily there are a number of ways that you can keep an eye on what is actually happening to your data (and even set daily limits if need be).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monitoring your Data usage with Windows 10 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Open your \u201cSettings\u201d in the Start bar and go to the \u201cNetwork and Internet\u201d Tab:\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-10528\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webafrica.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/network.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"167\" height=\"68\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.webafrica.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/network.jpg 273w, https:\/\/blog.webafrica.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/network-60x25.jpg 60w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 167px) 100vw, 167px\" \/>\u00a0then find \u201cData Usage\u201d in the Left side menu.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-10529\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webafrica.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/network-data.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"179\" height=\"31\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.webafrica.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/network-data.jpg 322w, https:\/\/blog.webafrica.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/network-data-60x10.jpg 60w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 179px) 100vw, 179px\" \/> This will allow you to view your total usage in a given time, or view your usage per app. This is a good way of seeing exactly where your data is going (on your PC). You will also see the option to set your data limits.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You can either set a monthly limit or set a one-time limit and select the number of days until it expires. This means you can set it up daily as your needs require.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-10530\" src=\"https:\/\/www.webafrica.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/network-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"82\" height=\"116\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.webafrica.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/network-3.jpg 342w, https:\/\/blog.webafrica.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/network-3-60x85.jpg 60w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 82px) 100vw, 82px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This can be very useful, especially if you have kids at home who are using your WiFi and you want to ensure that they have a metered dose of data to keep them going through the month.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monitoring your Data usage with Mac \/ iPhone <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Apple has gone out of their way to make the process of monitoring and controlling your data usage as easy possible for their users. All you actually have to do is visit your iStore and <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/my-data-manager-track-usage\/id477865384?platform=ipad&amp;preserveScrollPosition=true&amp;platform=ipad#platform\/ipad&amp;platform=ipad\">download the app<\/a> \u201cMy Data Manager\u201d for your iPhone, iPad or your Macbook.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monitoring your Data usage on Android <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your android phone can be a major culprit for data wastage because we tend to load our phones up with apps which are constantly updating themselves on our (WiFi) dime. Visit your phone or tablet\u2019s settings.<\/p>\n<p>Tap on Data Usage and view the specifics of which apps are using your data.<\/p>\n<p>You can then tap on any one of these and set its individual settings to set your preferred limitations for each.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also a good idea to go through your apps from time to time to ensure that you\u2019re not sitting with apps that you no longer make use of.
