Get More out of your Google Assistant

If you have an android device you probably already make use of the “Okay Google” function on your phone, but did you know that you Google assistant can do a lot more for you than tell you why Orange is called orange?

Your Google Assistant is a powerful organizational tool just waiting to make your life easier.

Things your Google Assistant can do:

  • Keep track of your appointments and calendar
  • Set alarms
  • Tell you what the weather is up to
  • Manage tasks
  • Remember where you parked your car
  • Book tickets to movies and events
  • Find restaurants near you and make reservations
  • Find and play music for you
  • Help you stay healthy with integrated Google fitness apps and health apps
  • Translate languages and help you learn them
  • Give you style recommendations (really)
  • Read you inspirational quotes
  • Call for help in an emergency
  • Give you directions
  • Check Sports scores
  • Read you the latest news
  • Count your calories
  • Manage your personal schedule with the “Bedtime Routine”, “I’m Home Routine” and “Good Morning Routine”.
  • If you have smart home lights and devices, your Google assistant can turn lights on and off, turn on your security alarms, and turn the heating on.
  • …and so much more.

In other words, Your Google assistant can be exactly that: a digital personal assistant. For most of the functions you don’t even need any kind of additional tech (except for the Smart Home stuff). You just need a phone that supports the latest version of Google, and about 15 minutes once-off to set it all up.

How to access Your Google Assistant:

Long press your phone’s “Home Screen” Button until your assistant pops up.

To get started, choose the Google account you want to connect your assistant with.

Find the three dots in the top right-hand corner of your assistant and select “settings”.

Update your settings.

You can even give your assistant a nickname or change your assistant’s voice!

Next, we strongly recommend you set up your “Good Morning Routine”. This will allow your assistant to set your wake up alarm, play your music, get you the weather forecast, and read you your calendar events and schedules, and more.

  • Long press the Home Button to launch your Google Assistant.
  • Tap the blue button in the top-right corner of the Google Assistant window.
  • Tap the menu icon in the top-right corner.
  • Select “Settings”
  • Select “Routines”
  • Select “Good morning”
  • Check the appropriate boxes to toggle what’s included in your morning notices.
  • You can also choose if you’d like to end your morning notices with a narrated news report, music, radio, audiobooks, podcasts or no audio at all. It’s up  to you.
  • Once you’ve set everything up, all you need to do is say “Good morning” to Google Assistant.

What are you waiting for? Open up your Google assistant now and get it set up – it’s about time your tech started pulling its weight!
