We’ve completely revamped our Home Connect pricing, meaning our much loved Home ADSL customers will get even more value as well as save money!

We’re automatically moving existing customers on high end packages to bigger packages for even less than they are currently paying! That’s a lot more Gigs for a lot less Rand.

Auto migration will work as follows

Home Connect:

Home Connect PRO:

This doesn’t mean that customers on Home Connect packages less than 50 Gigs are missing out. They can now upgrade to bigger packages for a lot less than before, should they choose to do so.

New Home Connect Prices

Home Connect:

Home Connect PRO:

All customers can view their new Gig allocation and usage through their DSL console as well as upgrade their current package to any one of the new Home Connect packages here.

More details on the Home Connect page.

Smartphones have become the mainstay of users all over the world, with specifications and features that we wouldn’t have dreamed of ten years ago. One of the biggest advantages of the popularity of such phones is the availability of richer and more advanced mobile applications, reducing the need to be in front of a laptop/desktop computer to perform any internet-required task.

We’re well-known for our reseller offerings and we’re currently looking at ways to ensure that our resellers’ needs are well-catered for when it comes to account management and flexibility of package customisations, among other things. With this in mind, our friends at Information Kinetics have created a reseller android mobile application that will further ease the process of managing accounts under reseller realms and multiple realms. It has extensive features which make use of our API, which is targeted toward customers and resellers who would like to use alternate interfaces to process data on their account and services with Web Africa.

Features include:

Ability to view extensive information about each of the accounts under your realm which includes, but is not limited to:

The account’s current usage level i.e. how much cap is left, including usage history.

Authentication history i.e. logs of sessions created to connect to the internet.

Summary of the ADSL account e.g. if auto top-ups or recharge are enabled.

Adding a new account to the realm, and also stating if it should be created disabled or enabled.

Enable/Disable accounts under the realm.

View/Disconnect active sessions for accounts.

Change account password under the realm.

This app has extensive features even in its infancy. The interface is very minimalistic, making it very lightweight. It requires special permissions from your phone for internet accessibility so you can rest assured that the app is safe. It’s obvious from using the app that the emphasis is on functionality without sacrificing on usability.

Some drawbacks of the app (which can be excused for now that the app is in its infancy) include:

No ability to filter account results for specified realm (this only becomes an issue when you have a lot of accounts under your realm.)

Lack of helpful messages when there are no accounts for a specified realm (I was led to assume that the page was still loading.)

Once again thanks to Information Kinetics for their initiative on this project. We’re looking forward to hearing what the community has to say about the app.

You can download the app here for free, and don’t forget to review it. Your feedback is crucial for future improvements!

Yesterday we experienced one the most awful outages and would like to bring some light to the matter. Our IPC service was reduced to around 5% of its normal capacity – this IPC service is a Telkom service that connects ADSL users to Web Africa’s Network.
The problem was related to the Metro infrastructure Telkom use as backhaul between their own POP’s. Unfortunately this took a significant amount of time for them to isolate and resolve. Our CEO, Matthew Tagg offered his most sincerest apologies to all our customers in the following email.

Dear Web African,

In over 10 years, yesterdays network problems were the worst we, and you, have experienced and we want to apologise and give you a heads up.

You probably had little or no internet or email connectivity for a few hours yesterday because we suffered a ‘network outage’ at 11.30am. We only managed to restore service at 4.45pm yesterday afternoon. Since then, you should have been experiencing our normal fast internet speeds again. We accept that this is an unacceptable time lapse and we are sorry.

The problem was caused by a fundamental failure on Telkom’s network in the Cape Town area. Unfortunately Telkom failed to identify the problem and provide a solution within a reasonable timeframe, in spite of us following an immediate escalation process within Telkom. We are busy getting to the bottom of the issue with them.

However, we are aware that you entrust us, Web Africa, to provide you with the kind of customer experience which has, until now, consistently positioned us as the number 1 ISP in the country. We will not give up that position lightly and we promise you we are working hard on ensuring that any future similar outages will be avoided.

Please accept our apologies.

Yours sincerely,

Matthew Tagg, CEO

SA commemorates Women’s Month in August. In celebration of the wonderful women of Web Africa, we’ll be featuring them throughout the month.

Our final featured woman truly embodies what it means to work in the ISP industry. She’s young, fast-paced and full of fun. She even met her husband on Facebook! She’s our DSL Team Leader, Mariska Aranes!

Mariska joined the Web Africa family almost three years ago after working for some well-known corporations in the UK. Born in sleepy Somerset West, she chose the ISP industry for its high-pressured and fun atmosphere.

Mariska become a mom nearly two years ago when she welcomed a son, Luca, with her husband Timothy. “We love getting out of Cape Town for the weekends. We go camping and hiking to escape from the hectic week,” she says.

Mariska is crazy about Thai food, “I love to eat at Simply Asia!” she says. When she does stay home she likes to relax with an episode of Entourage.

“I think all women should be celebrated because we are amazing. We have an incredible pain-threshold- as I know from giving birth! We also know how to multi-task… I think the world would be a better place if women controlled it.”

On working at Web Africa, “I look forward to coming to work every day thanks to my amazing working environment and my colleagues who always keep me entertained,” she says.

We’d like to encourage all our customers, as well as everyone with an internet service provider to take a quick minute to fill out this short survey.

Contributing feedback not only puts you in line to win an iPad 2 from MyBroadband, but it also allows us to determine how we compare, what our customers are happy with, what we need to improve on, and gives valuable credit where it’s due!

We would greatly appreciate your thoughts!

SA commemorates Women’s Month in August. In celebration of the wonderful women of Web Africa, we’ll be featuring them throughout the month.

This Web African is a particularly special lady. She’s been with the Web Africa family the longest of all our female employees. She has no problem feeling at home in the large WA family as she’s number 5 out of 8 children in her own family! She’s our Senior Credit Controller… Patience Mareya!

Patience was born in the Zimbabwe’s capital city, Harare. While still in Zimbabwe she joined the World Health Organisation as a Help Desk Administrator. After coming to SA she joined the WA family as a Billing Administrator in 2006. She’s married to Derek and had a three year old called Lisa.

Patience is one busy lady- not only is she a dedicated Web African, a wife and a mother but she’s also a student! She’s currently studying Credit Management at Cape Peninsula University of Technology to add to her Diploma in Networking and PC Maintenance.

Spending time with her family over the weekend comes first for Patience. She loves relaxing at home with her husband and toddler, enjoying movies like Enchanted and catching up on some well deserved sleep. Although she does like to get out and party every now and then!

For Patience, celebrating August as Women’s Month is vital as “everyone is important but women are important because they are mothers. Every human being in this world has come from a woman’s womb.”

On her experience at Web Africa, “Working at Web Africa is awesome. What I like most about my job is the people I work with. We all come from different backgrounds but somehow we all work together peacefully to achieve one goal, making WA the Top Rated ADSL ISP,” she says.
