Clear Skies 3 has undocked at last!
Clear Skies 3 was finally released by producer Ian Chisholm to an eager fan base across the internet on May 29th /30th. Weighing in at a mighty 2.2GB download, this machinima is the result of months of hard work; creating the virtual sets, filming, skinning models and voice-acting, all to produce a single monstrous fan-made masterpiece.
Clear Skies combines the game platforms of EVE Online and Half-Life 2 to produce a tale of three misfit privateers and their adventures across EVE Online’s game world of New Eden. The graphics and fiction of EVE Online provide for the outside visuals of starships, starbases, stations and over-arching story. The Half-Life 2 graphics engine is used for the character details, rooms and “inside” locations within the story.
John Rourke is the obstinate captain of the Clear Skies, a Tempest class battleship manufactured by the downtrodden Minmatar race of New Eden. Rourke’s attitude toward his hazardous chosen lifestyle is cavalier, although this does not sit well with his friends among the crew. Solomon Burke is the pessimistic ship’s engineer, while Charlie Fodder — a gunner with an ironic name — does his best to keep the crew alive. Typical of life in New Eden, Fodder is doomed to remain a rather busy man.
This third instalment of Clear Skies sees John, Solomon and Charlie seemingly doing well after their previous engagement in their shiny new Maelstrom class battleship after Clear Skies was destroyed at the end of Clear Skies 2, but shadowy forces are bent on getting some bits and pieces of what was left of Clear Skies. There is a reason why that Minmatar scrap-pile survived as long as it did up until that point.
The tale of Clear Skies 1,2 and 3 is told from a science fiction point of view with little or no previous knowledge of EVE Online needed to understand and appreciate the story on its own merit.
