New ADSL Pricing Announcement

price_dropOur long awaited ADSL pricing announcement is finally here. (More to follow in July) This is more than just a re-pricing structure from us that gives price decreases; it’s an overhaul of our packages, which sees monthly bandwidth allocation increases.
[...]

Some of the significant changes include the price reduction of our 1GB of shaped data from R70 per month to R59 per month, and a 10% bandwidth increase across all DSL Groups packages.

“We have made minor reductions to our shaped prepaid while unshaped and local have seen dramatic reductions,” says our CEO, Matthew Tagg.

Web Africa is also placing a stronger focus on one-account packages – which includes both ADSL access and data bundles, otherwise known as our DSL Complete range.

While the latest Web Africa pricing is not as aggressive as some of the other offerings in market, our aim is not to compete on price alone, but also ensure that we provide our subscribers with excellent quality of service and the high support levels we have become known for.

Web Africa is already offering free on-net gaming bandwidth, and there is more to come from us in the not too distant future. This is only the first phase in our price restructuring, and consumers can expect a significant improvement in value in mid-July.

With the new ADSL pricing launch, there has been further value added to our complete packages to cater for both low end and power users alike. Based on market related pricing, our bandwidth rates we have devised are extremely competitive.

No matter who your provider is, your DSL line from Telkom will always cost the same, below is a breakdown of how Web Africa has decreased the overall cost of your Internet:

Telkom 384kb ADSL Line = R152 p/m
Telkom 4Mb ADSL Line = R413 p/m
Web Africa Complete1 @ R169 = 384Kb line @ R152 + 1Gb = R17 p/gb
Web Africa Complete2 @ R249 = 384Kb line @ R152 + 3Gb @ R97 = R32 p/gb
Web Africa Complete3 @ R349 = 384Kb line @ R152 + 5Gb @ R197 = R39 p/gb
Web Africa Complete4 @ R499 = 4Mb line @ R413 + 3Gb @ R86 = R29 p/gb
Web Africa Complete5 @ R599 = 4Mb line @ R413 + 6Gb @ R186 = R31 p/gb
Web Africa Complete6 @ R799 = 4Mb line @ R413 + 12Gb @ R386 = R32 p/gb
Web Africa Complete7 @ R999 = 4Mb line @ R413 + 16Gb @ R586 = R36 p/gb

With our complete packages you will not be tied down to any contracts, and the process to move you ADSL line is as simple as a call to our 24 hour call center. If you have a DSL line with a different provider, we will move your DSL line free of charge and you will receive 1gb of prepaid bandwidth as a welcome gift.

Sorry, but your calculations above are misleading. DSL complete is sold under Telkom's ADSL reseller scheme. You (WA) buy the ADSL line rental component from Telkom at a reduced rate i.e., less than R152. I suspect that the margin is quite small, but you are still making some profit, so you can not claim that the 1GB included with the 384k line costs “only R17″.

When are these prices effective from? I see they're not on the website yet.

I'm a DSL Complete customer and I must say I'm a bit disappointed that the price drops aren't bigger, but since I've always been happy with WebAfrica's customer service I won't move to another ISP right now.

One thing bothers me though – the more bandwidth one buys the higher the price per GB. Isn't that completely backwards?

“shaped data from R70 per month to R59 per month”
Wow…R11 difference. How fortuanate are we?
    and
    “(More to follow in July)”

Anybody else with a Patience problem?

For the lat couple of months (while everyone has been decreasing their prices) Webafrica has been keeping there customers in suspense regarding the new pricing structure.

As a customer who spends a lot of time overseas and buys bandwidth on a “need” basis i am completely disgusted with the “massive” “huge” wonderful” R1 (yes thats right ONE RAND) re-price webafrica has given me.

My need basis is from 1-8 gigs per month so i cant commit to a “shaped/unshaped package” because it doesn't suit my needs.

Well webafrica guess what your service is awesome, your network is up there amongst the best but your cheeky attitude towards your customers is disgusting.

Im very disappointed because i stayed with you guys because i thought it was going to be worth it but it wasnt.

    Lets keep this simple.
In view of the price movements of your competition over the past two weeks…..
What are you going to do now?
    If indeed anything.

Is WebAfrica business model flexible enough to effectively deal with what your competition is dooing and keep their customers.
Or will WebAfrica just Expect their customers to remain Loyal and continue to pay-up for what is quickly becoming ridiculously small cap connectivity

    Hi Pete,

As you are well aware I am sure, the ISP marketing is highly competitive at the moment so we are unfortunately not able to discuss our strategy. If Mweb had given out information about their uncapped offerings before hand it would not have had the impact it did. I hope you can understand from that point of view.

As far as if our business model is flexible enough? The answer is yes, we have always been in a volatile market and have had to be ready to roll out changes in short time frames. Note that we are not purely an ADSL provider, we also have resellers, hosting, mailfire, domain registration etc to grow and develop so we have to consider our entire product lineup roll-out schedule before impulsively jumping onto the next market hype.

In the last 6 months we have released:

    - A free gaming service
    - Industry first low hosting pricing
    - New Reseller Hosting on Utilization Product
    - New Dedicated Server Nitro Range
    - FreeZone
    - Lowered Data, Prepaid and DSL Complete Pricing (end user and reseller)
    - New Reseller Realms model

With much, much more to come. All of the above benefiting existing customers, not just the ADSL users.

Also, bare in mind that certain technologies are required before we can roll-out new products such as uncapped for example. Just because there is a demand for a product, it does not speed up the clearance through customs for example. Multiple variables that the end users are not aware of.

We are working as fast as we can to get new products out, I assure you we are not just sitting back and smiling about the recent developments, we are retorting.

July has come and gone, yet the complete 1 package is still the same price.

  • http://blog.webafrica.co.za/ Candace

    Hi Martin,

In July we gave almost all data packages more bandwidth for the same price, so we increased the value. We did not promise more price changes, but what followed was increase in the value of our packages for no added costs. :)
